Soul

Pixar showing their consistently excellent storytelling and execution, again.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

While it never really hits the high notes of my favorite Pixar movies or quite delivers on its lofty concept, Soul is a fine film; and another example of Pixar’s consistency and excellence in storytelling. The animation and most of the art direction is stellar, the music on point and the story mostly engaging. Where it falls down a little is conceptually and with its world-building. I really loved the depiction of Joe’s “real life” and thought the way it connected to the overall work was good and compelling, but the Great Beyond and all the rest felt a little hollow to me, and some of the ideas there not all that interesting.
